HOW I HEALED MY DRY,SENSITIVE,ACNE-PRONE SKIN

Here’s a little back story about my skin. When I was finishing up my final year of high school I had just broken with my ex, I was super stressed from school, the breakup, applying to college that my skin did a 90 degree on me and started breaking out. The pimples came out of nowhere because my skin never had a spec on it. Now my face had different planets on it. I got even more stressed from the breakouts that it grew into dark spots from me popping the pimples on my face. My parents took me to a dermatologist who prescribed some topical creams which caused my already dry skin to become drier. I never wore makeup so, I had to learn different ways to make my skin look even. Fast Forward to now After trying everything from creams, gel, pills name it. I finally heard about  “Accutane” and spoke to my dermatologist about it. I used it for about 6months. It really helped my skin from breaking out with cystic acne and getting rid of dark spots. I still have hormonal breakouts from my period but not as bad as before.

So I will be the first one to admit that I don’t have perfect skin. Even though lately it feels pretty perfect compared to what it was. I’ve been on this journey for a few years trying to clear up persistent breakouts & I am not lying when I say that I have tried EVERYTHING. I mean everything. I am finally at a point in my journey where I have found a routine that finally works for me & has kept my skin super clear & healthy. I know that I can’t be the only one who has struggled with hormonal breakouts. Here are the products I use now for super dry, sensitive, hormonal and acne prone skin. I’m also currently on RETIN-A which is an exfoliant and the products below have helped with dryness and peeling.

1CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleaner (for normal to oily skin) I use this every day, it cleanses, heals and hydrates my skin from dryness.
2. CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion SPF30 I recommend adding an SPF 15-30 into your skin care routine it helps with evening out skin while treating new spots.
3. Pure Vitamin E Oil I use this overnight on days when I take a break from applying my Retin-A. It keeps my skin soft and hydrated.
4. TeaTree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser I don’t use this everyday, just when I want a deep cleansing and want a tingling feeling from the tea tree. It also leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean!

These products have been the holy grail of products for me when it comes to dry skin! They are gentle and leave my skin feeling hydrated, fresh and healthy. What are some of your favorite products for dry sensitive skin?

  • Love CeraVe products. My dermatologist recommended them as well as Cetaphil for my issues with eczema. I’ll have to check out some of the other products you mentioned. Breakouts are so frustrating and, now with the heat & humidity back in NC, much more common for me. Ah, the joy of summer. 😉
